Your friend, sister, relative or significant other passes on. You cry, drink, mumble, shake and all the rest, at some point don't you have to get over it? If you're going to have to get over it, why go into all the emotional craziness in the first place?
Have you ever thought about the "living" individuals that may need you in a time of crisis?
Have you ever seen a horrible accident and the first responders that "pass you by" because you're too shook up to be of any assistance? *I won't comment.
What about the guy that when his wife leaves him, he drinks himself to death? Nice...
Here's my point, there's a finite point in everyone's world and I label it "zero". When you awake with no pain or pleasure, that's zero.
Your average day takes you from + or - zero randomly but not too often to the extreme. Your daily fluctuations land you back at your specific zero each and every time.
With the discipline of realizing you're going to return to zero at some point, why venture in extremes too far away in the first place? Life has taught you that you're going to come back.
What if doctors, nurses, firemen, police and other first responders fell to pieces when "you" were in need?
Your time on earth is finite, your expenditure of emotions is finite, attempt not to waste either on the frivolous.
