Simplified explanation conveying that time doesn't exist

∆ Parents and children, there isn't 'really' an 'age' gap? - A Brief History of Time-lessness - Matt Welcome.

3∆ The Future. - A Brief History of Time-lessness - Matt Welcome.

I have written a book (A Brief History of Time-lessness ) on a possibility that no one else interested in ‘time’ seems to have considered, let alone considered and carefully dismissed at the start of their inquiries into ‘time’.

If you consider the possibility i suggest, carefully as you look around the world it may make more and more sense to you.

This question gets asked a lot on Quora in different forms, and you will get a lot of varying answers – the main problem you will find is that people will tell you what they ‘think’ or guess about ‘time’, and almost invariably won’t even start by ‘defining’ what they mean by the (ambiguous) word, nor will they give actual evidence or experiments to support the opinions.

This means you may end up endlessly accruing more and more conflicting or aligning ‘ideas’ apparently about this ‘time’ thing. The problem being, that like ‘ghosts’, they probably don’t exist – but the more of a speculative discussion you have about ‘ghosts’, the more you use the word, and the more ideas you have, so the more you may (wrongly) think you are talking about something.

The possibility...

Try this ‘thought experiment’, to understand a key part of reality in a very different way that may answer all your questions about ‘time’.

Instead of assuming the thing ‘time’ exists, and endlessly trying to define ‘it’ and wonder what ‘it’ is, try sitting where you are and checking for yourself what you actually do and do not see.

You should see things existing, moving and interacting in all directions.

Now here’s the ‘trippy’ thought experiment,

Ask yourself the following question, and don’t give up until you are satisfied.

“IF everything in the universe “just” exists, moves and interacts in all physical directions, would this be enough to wrongly mislead me into thinking a ‘past’, ‘future’ and thus thing called ‘time’ exist?”

Bare in mind, that your own apparent thoughts about a ‘future’, are just matter existing moving and interacting in your mind, and your own apparent ‘memories of the past’, are just matter in a formation in your mind.

If you ask yourself the thought experiment question carefully, you may find that matter just existing and interacting is all you see, and all that is needed to explain all you observe.

So you may conclude, like me, that therefore that is probably all there is, and we may be wrong from the outset to assume any such ‘things’ as a ‘past’, a ‘future’ or ‘time’ actually exist in any way at all.

And the universe may be literally and genuinely ‘timeless’ ( to use a thus misleading word : )

yours
Matthew Marsden

Ps – if you check out the main video it addresses the points you ask. Re ‘aging’ be careful you are not confusing ‘appearance’ with something else. And check your facts with experiment.

Eg – place one apple in a fridge – where it ‘is’ ‘changing in all physical directions ‘slowly’, and place another in a warm damp place.
On may ‘change’ more rapidly, and ‘look’ old or decayed or dead... but logically the matter is all just there or in the surroundings... to claim either has ‘aged’ you need to prove – not just assume – but prove – there really is a past, and future, and thing called time... otherwise you don’t see any thing ‘age’ – you just call things that are firm young, and mushy old.

Consider buying a ‘new’ car – do you think they really make things ‘new’ in the factory – or just smooth and shiny?

Consider a 4 month ‘old’ baby, eating a 6 month ‘old’ tin of beans... does some of the baby apparently become 6 months old... or do all of the matter that makes up the baby, its surroundings and the beans just exist and interact with varying appearences?

  • What if "time" doesn't actually exist?
  • Best Answer:               Somebody asks this question every so often and the answer is always the same.  Time is not an illusion.  Time really happens.  The MEASUREMENT of time is a human invention, because there's nothing in the whole universe that says a second should be as long as we've made it, or a minute, or an hour.  But even if humans had never come around, time would still exist, separating one event from another until the end of everything.

We know time exists because it figures so prominently into the workings of the universe.  It's not just a concept we've invented so we know when to eat lunch.  We know that the "speed" of time can be altered by moving close to the speed of light or by being in a gravitational field.  These are real, observed effects, by the way - not just some speculating by bored scientists.  We know that clocks really do run slower in fast-moving vehicles.  In fact, the GPS network, which relies on hyper-accurate time measurements to do its job, must account for the time dilation effects that result from the satellites moving around in space at high speeds.  If these effects were not accounted for, our GPS receivers would not work properly, and we'd all wind up driving our cars into lakes (well, not really, but you get my point, right?)

So time is a very real and important thing.  Our perception of it is very human, but the thing itself is not.  I hope that helps.  Good luck!

You Are What You Think

Your mind is a very powerful thing, and most of us take it for granted. We believe we aren't in control of what we think because our thoughts seem to fly in and out all day long. But you are in control of your thoughts, and you become what you think about. And that little kernel of truth is the secret power of the mind.
It's really not a secret after all. The power is available to every single person, including you. And it's free.
"The secret" is that you are what you think. You become what you think about. You can create the life you want, simply by thinking the right thoughts.
In 1956, Earl Nightingale wrote "The Strangest Secret" in an attempt to teach people the power of the mind, the power of thought. He said, "you become what you think about all day long."
Nightingale's inspiration came from Napoleon Hill's book, "Think and Grow Rich," published in 1937.
For 75 years (and likely long before that), this simple "secret" has been taught to adults around the world.
At the very least, the knowledge has been available to us.
So why is it a secret?
We are creatures of habit. We tend to follow the picture in our minds created by our parents, our neighborhoods, our towns and the part of the world from which we come. For good or for bad.
But we don't have to. We each have a mind of our own, capable of imagining life the way we want it. We can say yes or no to the million choices we each encounter every single day. Sometimes it's good to say no, of course, or we wouldn't get anything at all done. But the most successful peoplesay yes to life overall. They are open to possibilities. They believe they have the power to make changes in their lives. They aren't afraid to try new things, or to fail. In fact, many of the most successful companies reward people who have the courage to try new things, even if they fail, because the things we call failures often turn into extremely successful things. Did you know Post-It Notes were a mistake in the beginning?
Start imagining your life the way you want it. Create a picture in your mind and think about that picture steadfastly all day long. Believe in it.
You don't have to tell anybody. Have your own quiet confidence that you can make the picture in your mind come true.
You will start making different choices in line with your picture. You will take small steps in the right direction.
You'll also encounter obstacles. Don't let these obstacles stop you. If you hold your picture of the life you want steadfast in your mind, you will eventually create that life.
What have you got to lose? Close your eyes and start now.
You will become what you think about.

Hold the press!

**I read quite a few blogs trashing the expat life saying things like: You'll become a drunk or druggie. You'll catch a disease. Your woman will leave you. You'll never get medical care. Medical care sucks overseas. They'll find you dead and the list goes on seemingly forever.

Do you see the bubble in that tire?

That bubble didn't just occur, that's an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) defect.
If you begin to drink heavily, drug and chase prostitutes, that's your, "OEM".

You had a defect before you left from where ever.

Obviously weak minded, weak willed, the new pressures pushed "your" original defect to the surface.
You wanted to do all of the previously mentioned before you arrived at your destination.

However, it's very convenient to blame it on a neighborhood, city, state or country.

I drank and drank heavy for years and now I can take a drink or leave it - I prefer to leave it, makes me sick.

My drinking came from my "own" unresolved issues. No I didn't pray, no I didn't complete some state sponsored program and the only thing AA did was encourage me to buy a bottle.
Grown men and women talking about they had no control as if they were possessed.....uck.

If you're going to travel across the street, you take "you" with you and guess what... You'll be waiting for "you" when you get there.

Man up and be responsible for yourself as well as your actions.

And one last thing about expatriating, it's going to show what "you're" really made of. If you were a candy coated blow pop, your sugary outside is going to melt and you're going to get chewed up.

9 times out of 10, a man or woman that drops and fails out here was dropping and failing where they were previously at.
It may have taken a bit of wisdom to get straightened out "before" you left. There's very little mercy in foreign countries and if you're needy, stay where you're at!

The last thing guys like myself need is to hear another whiny, incompetent American wuss's sob stories

Perhaps you're in luck, mommy may have kept your black light poster, lava lamp and twin sized bed in the basement, call her.

Will The US Economy Collapse In 2016? Predictions And Preparations

By Eric Blair
Is 2016 the year our financial system fully collapses?
It seems like the alternative media always predicts that an economic collapse is coming. In many ways we’ve been right, but in many ways we’ve been wrong. Sure, mathematically, the debt-based monetary system is headed for disaster, and clearly certain parts of the economy are already experiencing major declines. However, we have to admit that our breathless annual predictions of a major economic collapse have been wrong.
I guess it all depends how you define economic collapse. The oil industry is currently experiencing a collapse. Brick and mortar retail is in collapse. Fast food is also hemorrhaging. And financial institutions are shedding jobs faster than ever. If you’re in one of these fields, you probably feel like the collapse is happening all around you.
Yet the value of the dollar remains relatively stable (for now) and parts of the US economy continue to grow.  For example, Amazon’s revenue grew 23% in the last quarter, Star Wars is setting global records in theaters and with licensed merchandise, organic food is crushing it, and services like Uber and Airbnb are exploding. And of course the businesses of medicine, war, and policing always seem to be booming.
My point is that the economy always has winners and losers. Collapse or no collapse, there will be some industries that are contracting while others are expanding.  Our duty is to identify the pitfalls and opportunities in the current climate to position ourselves to survive and thrive.

Economic Prediction for 2016

I think a dramatic economic collapse is possible but not probable in 2016. At minimum, however, the United States will likely experience a recession in 2016 even using the government’s phony numbers. This will be painful to a great many people and it will dramatically accelerate the timeline for systematic collapse. Yet I believe there are still enough sectors with abundance and consumer demand to delay widespread collapse. Also, the unbelievably low price for oil can subsidize the US consumer economy for years if it continues.
That said, the Overstock CEO is prepping for an economic zombie apocalypse with gold and food for his employees.  If you read this website, Zero Hedge and many others, you probably understand all of the ways the system is doomed. High public debt and taxes; jobs being outsourced and automated; Wall Street swaps, derivatives and high-frequency trading; a Baby Boomer generation retires while their unemployed grandchildren are buried in college debt. Ominous clouds, indeed.
Michael Burry, the real-life market prophet from The Big Short, recently told New York Magazine that a bigger crisis than 2008 is looming because too-big-to-fail banks have only gotten bigger and central banks have lost control of the economy’s risk pricing mechanism – interest rates.
Where do we stand now, economically?
Well, we are right back at it: trying to stimulate growth through easy money. It hasn’t worked, but it’s the only tool the Fed’s got. Meanwhile, the Fed’s policies widen the wealth gap, which feeds political extremism, forcing gridlock in Washington. It seems the world is headed toward negative real interest rates on a global scale. This is toxic. Interest rates are used to price risk, and so in the current environment, the risk-pricing mechanism is broken. That is not healthy for an economy. We are building up terrific stresses in the system, and any fault lines there will certainly harm the outlook.
What makes you most nervous about the future?
Debt. The idea that growth will remedy our debts is so addictive for politicians, but the citizens end up paying the price. The public sector has really stepped up as a consumer of debt. The Federal Reserve’s balance sheet is leveraged 77:1. Like I said, the absurdity, it just befuddles me.
Economic_collapse_guide_cover01“Toxic” Burry calls our situation. Agreed. It’s not a matter of if the economy will experience a major illness, it’s merely a matter of when. The symptoms are already spreading.
But I think we’ve got at least another year before any large-scale breakdown of the economy. This is great news since it gives us plenty of time to adapt and prepare.

Preparations for a Declining Economy

We put together a detailed special report on how we plan to survive and thrive in current economic conditions. It covers tips and tactics to simplify your finances, to get healthier, to diversify your income, to produce and store food and much more. Charts Show Every Genetically Modified Food People Already Eat in the U.S.

See all the GMOs you may already be eating

Chipotle announced Monday that the chain will no longer serve food containing genetically modified organisms (GMO), raising the bar for transparency in the United States, where there’s no requirement to indicate the presence of GMO ingredients on food labels or in restaurants. Likewise, biotechnology companies aren’t required to report which genetically modified seeds are used in production.
Yet the use of GMOs is undoubtedly widespread. Since GMOs were approved for commercial use, and then first planted into U.S. soil in 1996, their production has increased dramatically. More than 90% of all soybean cotton and corn acreage in the U.S. is used to grow genetically engineered crops. Other popular and approved food crops include sugar beets, alfalfa, canola, papaya and summer squash. More recently, apples that don’t brown and bruise-free potatoes were also approved by the FDA.
It's also instructive to look at permits granted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) — the American GMO gatekeepers, together with the Environmental Protection Agency – though it's important to note that not all the issued permits are for crops that are approved for commercial use.
To produce crops commercially, biotech companies apply for "deregulated status", the green light from the USDA to plant and distribute without restriction.
The bar chart below shows all deregulated crops, sized by the number of genetic varieties approved for each. The ten crops in green are currently produced in the United States, and described in detail in the list below.

What I've done in life no longer matters, what matters is that I'm content within my own skin and with the world that surrounds me. I've come to realize a few things, one of which is that you can't turn a donkey into a racehorse. I began blogging 20 years ago and I was going to change the world, they say wisdom isn't wasted on the youth. The harsh reality of it all is that everyone is right where they're supposed to be. We are all locked into prisons of our own making because of our imagination or lack thereof and our own thinking has placed us there. You may as well get comfy.
